- ISOLDE radioactive beam transport: The recent work calculating beam optics with the
program GIOS (program for electrostatic beam optics) has given interesting results. A
comparison to measured data shows that it is possible to achieve a reasonable
agreement between theory and practice for the GPS separator and parts of the CA0-LA1
section. The many cross overs in the beam transport can be shown, using GIOS< to give
an unstable behavior of the beam further up in the beam line. The objective with this
sub-project is to make proposal for new settings, possibly propose changes of the
positioning of elements, that would make it faster to set-up stable beam for experiments.
Furthermore, the losses could possibly be further reduced and software tolls (such as ABS)
could be created for stable beam set-up. The sub-project will hopefully benefit form the
newly agreed collaboration between TRIUMF-ISAC and and PS-ISOLDE. (Uwe Georg's presentation in PDF format)
- ISOLDE control system consolidation: The major change is the introduction of industrial
PLC units and VME computers as new ISOLDE front end computers. The ISOLDE consoles will at
least initially stay unchanged. A gradual transfer of application programs to JAVA would
in the future enable full ISOLDE operation from standard PS LINUX console computers. The
consolidation of the ISOLDE control system was presented by Giuseppe Mornacchi and Frank
Locci. The presentation are available as a PDF file, an EXCEL file and a PowerPoint
file.
- Next meeting will take place 25 April 2001.
