- There is now a web page for the project at https://isolde-consolidation.web.cern.ch/isolde-consolidation/.
The idea is that this site should be the source of information for the project. If you
need write privileges or if you want links added to existing pages, please, contact Mats.
- Status of the sub-projects:
- Project 2.1, Building 179 and 838 as class A labs: The detailed planning was done at an
early stage (including budget for the 2 coming years). Price enquiry for the endoscope is
in progress. A quote for a second emergency box for UC and ThC targets have been
requested. Work on detailed plans for the planned extension will start in 2001.
(E.Kugler)
- Project 2.2, Building 170 as class C lab: The new door has been installed and the plans
for the porch have been accepted by the site committee. Several meetings have been held
for the refurbishment of the solid state lab. Detailed plans will be produced after
Christmas. (E.Kugler)
- Project 2.3, Renovation of target manipulation robots: New cameras have arrived and will
be installed during the shutdown. A first round of inquires to identify possible suppliers
of new or renovated robots has started. (Presentation
by R.Catherall)
- Project 3.1, Front-ends for the ISOLDE facility: The renovated front end number 3 will
be installed during the shutdown. There are still some modifications to be done. The copy
of the present front ends is in progress. Several meetings have been held to collect ideas
for the copy and for a new generation of front ends. (S. Marzari).
- Project 3.2, Improvement of the target manufacturing facilities: The emittance meter for
the off-line separator has been ordered and will arrive in end of May. The detailed plans
for the renovation of the pump stands and the off line separator are being made. The
planning depend on in particular the progress of subproject 3.9 (power supplies). (R.
Catherall)
- Project 3.3, HRS: No report at this meeting (Tim Giles excused).
- Project 3.4, RILIS: Measurements
have been done of the noise generated in the hall from the RILIS CV lasers. The detailed
plans for the a shielded and larger laser barrack (RILIS) have been made and the work will
be executed during the shutdown. Detailed plans for the improvement and automatisation of
RILIS exists but await the go ahead by the collaboration that has been asked to finance
this sub-project. (Report
by U. Koester)
- Project 3.5, Beam Transport: No report at this meeting (U. Georg excused).
- Project 3.6, ISOLDE control system: There is fast advance on the detailed plans for the
renovation of the ISOLDE control system. The present consoles with the PC based software
will remain unchanged. The front-end computer layer will be entirely replaced with either
industrial process control units (type Simatic) or PS style VME computers. A new control
interface will be created on the PS Linux console computers. Partly this is already
operational over a paserelle. U.Georg, O.Jonsson and G.Cyvoct have been asked to revisit
the naming convention and define working sets for this new PS control software. (Report
by G. Mornacchi)
- Project 3.7, Noble gas trap: No report at this meeting (E.Mahner excused).
- Project 3.8, New tape station: First study of what is need has started. A first phase
with new timing signals over the standard PS timing units can be implemented already this
year (G-J. Focker).
- Project 3.9, ISOLDE power supplies: Fast progress is being made on defining the
control-power supply interface. The study of necessary investments in spares and new units
has started. The budget request for this unforeseen sub-project will be added to the
project budget next year (J-P Royer, see also separate minutes
from this sub-projects meetings)
- Project 3.10, ISOLDE instrumentation: A first study of needed consolidation shows that
there is a need to redo the SEM grid hardware to assure a single standard hardware for the
entire PS division. Standardization of faraday cups would be a great help for trouble
shooting. Drawings of the existing types are at present being made. The cups that can be
accessed will be taken out during shutdown for this purpose. Spares for all types of
faraday cups will hopefully be available towards the end of this year. The budget for this
unforeseen consolidation will be requested in next years budget. (G-J. Focker).
- Next meeting will take place 7 February at 16.00.
