Minutes from REX integration meeting 25/2/2004

Present: Friedhelm Ames, Pierre Delahaye, Fredrik Wenander, Thomas Sieber

1. REXTRAP status

* The trap has been delivering K+ beam to the WITCH experiment at 30 kV.

* Test at 60 kV operation voltage have been carried out. Severe external sparking in the ion source in spite of extra cleaning. Due to the sparking a Stanford Generator and the oven heating supply are broken. Further HV tests of the source foreseen this week.

* An upgrade to faster computers at the trap is under consideration.

2. REXEBIS

* A new date for the alignment of the inner structure has been given; end of first week of March.

* Some parts for the baking equipment have arrived. The system could maybe be installed by the first week in March.

* The purchase of a collector supply has been launched after some initial trouble at the purchasing office. A 6 kV, 1 A supply from Spellman.

* The problems with changing the ISOLDE database have been resolved.

* R. Becker in Frankfurt has been approached with a request for electron beam calculation support.

* A summer student for electron beam simulations has been granted.

3. Linac

* The new drift tubes are installed. Adjusted according to the calculations.

* The production of the beam diagnostics boxes continues. Pier-Amory had to give away the drilling job to the main workshop, which means an extra 1000 CHF in cost for the boxes. A cost summary (consumed salary and future jobs) for Pier-Amory should be given at next REX meeting.

4. Misc

* Friedhelm has finished a longer article on the cooling in the REXTRAP. Distributed to the co-authors for the moment. To be published in NIM.

* Fredrik has finished his contribution to the REX-ISOLDE Yellow report.

* The test schedule was not discussed as the key persons (Luis and Peter) for this were absent.

* It was concluded that a schedule for the startup and the off-line tests can not be given for the moment. The reason being the unforeseen complications with the control system, HV sparking, alignment issues, and the limited support given.
