- A warm welcome to Thomas Otto who is replacing Doris Forkel for TIS in the ISOLDE
consolidation project. Many, many thanks to Doris for her excellent work for the project
during, in particular, the preparation phase.
- The PS management has decided to accelerate the construction of the new spare front-end
for ISOLDE. The sub-project is now well underway and bi-weekly meetings are held to assure
that the progress is closely followed and bottle necks removed.
- Radioactive laboratories in buildings 170 and 179 (Presented by Erich Kugler):
- Building 170: The ISOLDE experimental hall will be set to a standard close to the Swiss
standard for a radioactive laboratory of class C. Due to limitations of the building
itself (fire resistance of walls, roof and windows and floor surface) it is not possible
to make it into a full class C laboratory (this would probably require a new building).
The major planned changes are controlled access, a porch for bringing material in and out
of the hall, a renovation of the solid state lab, a new workshop, a new entry to the light
building and enclosed areas for manipulations involving contamination risk. A drawing of the proposed changes is attached.
- Building 179 and target area: This building will be extended and up-graded to a full
class A laboratory. The extension will be done so that a target workshop could be added at
a later stage (class C). A dawning of the
proposed changes is attached.
- The project leader asked Erich Kugler to continue the work with theses sub-projects with
the help of Thomas Otto, Richard Catherall and Uwe Georg (and the project leader). An
excellent example of how a sub-project quickly can achieve important results is the work
led by J-P Royer for the Power-control consolidation at ISOLDE.
- Next meeting will take place 16 May 2001 and will be dedicated to the consolidation of
the ISOLDE instrumentation.
