- The project is officially approved and the activities have started. The preliminary
budget from CERN in 2001 is 1.2 MCHF. The contribution from the ISOLDE collaboration will
be discussed in the closed meeting of the ISCC 27 February.
- Status of High resolution separator sub-project: The separator was run at a resolution
of 9000 towards the end of last year with an optimised ion source and using a calculated
optics. To reach this resolution (and higher) for stable operation the magnets have to be
cycled when changing mass. For higher resolution the correction coils in the magnets have
to be made operational. Work is in progress with new controls for the magnets. The aim is
to have an automatic cycling of the magnets to avoid ireproducibility due to hystereses
effects. The changing of mass will take time (up to 10 minutes) but there will be
software to help with prediting the correct mass step available. For optimization
(verification) it will be possible to take small steps without triggering a full magnet
cycling. New NMR coils at optimised positions are essential for this year, tests in
progress. The need of instrumentation, possibly new vacuum chambers and power supplies
(with interface hardware) will be in the budget request for 2002. Reporter: Tim Giles

- Status of Noble gas sub-project: Vapor pressure plots show that we should aim for a 20 K
gas trap rather than a LN cooled trap. This will be more expensive but much more
versatile. Furthermore, it is easire to integrate such a trap in a front end design (no LN
filling necessary). To make a detailed design and cost estimate the permitted diameter and
length has to be specified. Uwe Georg was asked to assist with this. Reporter: E. Mahner
(transparencies 1,2).
- A project meeting this spring, after the shutdown, will be dedicated to the
consolidation of the ISOLDE instrumentation.
- Next meeting will take place 28 February 2001.
